Empowering Lives: iCare Community Services Launches Disability Support Project in Agogo, Ghana

Introduction

At iCare Community Services, our mission is rooted in inclusion, empowerment, and community impact. While we continue supporting individuals across Australia, we are proud to extend our reach globally through a new initiative in Ghana.

In partnership with the Ashanti Akim North District Assembly, we have launched a Disability Support and Empowerment Project in Agogo, focused on improving the lives of people living with disabilities and vulnerable members of the community.

A Vision Beyond Borders

With a strong presence across Sydney, Melbourne, and Darwin, iCare is taking a bold step toward international impact—creating inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Official Launch in Agogo

The project was officially launched with key stakeholders, including government representatives, traditional leaders, and community organisations.

During the event, essential items such as wheelchairs, mobility aids, and food supplies were distributed. A sod-cutting ceremony also marked the start of construction for the Disability Support and Empowerment Centre.

Addressing Critical Needs

In many rural communities in Ghana, people living with disabilities face limited access to services, assistive devices, education, and economic opportunities, alongside social stigma.

This project responds to the urgent need for structured and sustainable support systems.

The Empowerment Centre

The Disability Support and Empowerment Centre in Agogo will provide:

  • Vocational training
  • Rehabilitation and wellbeing support
  • Assistive devices
  • Community education on inclusion
  • Economic empowerment opportunities

It will serve as a hub for independence and transformation.

Driving Long-Term Impact

The project aims to improve access to services, promote independence, reduce stigma, and create economic opportunities for individuals and families.

A Collaborative Effort

Led by iCare Community Services (Australia) in partnership with the Ashanti Akim North District Assembly, the initiative is supported by social welfare departments, traditional leaders, and local organisations.

Conclusion

This project marks a significant step in iCare’s mission to build inclusive communities—empowering individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential, both locally and globally.
